Reason number 1. For Enviroment!

When land is used to raise animals, instead of crops , a lot of water and soil are lost, trees are cut down to make space for animals just so we can eat some meat. Is it worth it?

Untreated animal waste can pollute rivers, streams and lakes. This can cause eutrophication. Eutrophication arises from the oversupply of nutrients, which induces explosive growth of plants and algae which, when such organisms die, consume the oxygen in the body of water, thereby creating the state of hypoxia. Without oxygen all living organisms in the water die.

Cows use 16 pounds of vegatetion in order to convert them into 1 pound of flesh. Raising animals for food consumes more than half of all water used in the US and producing just one hamburger uses enough fossil fuel to drive a small car 20 miles. I am not writing this to give you guilt talk but there is no reason not to get educated! More than 80 percent of the corn we grow and more than 95 percent of the oats are fed to livestock. The world’s cattle alone consume a quantity of food equal to the caloric needs of 8.7 billion people—more than the entire human population on Earth.

Reason number 2. Vegan is delicious!

So you’re worried that if you go vegan, you’ll have to give up hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, and ice cream? You won’t. There are products to replace meat that are even better! Check out this website for great vegan recipes : http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/category/special-diets/vegan/

Reason number 3, Happier You!

Vegan diet is great for your health. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, vegans are less likely to develop heart disease, cancer, diabetes, or high blood pressure than meat-eaters are. Vegans get all the nutrients that they need to be healthy, such as plant protein, fiber, and minerals, without all the nasty stuff in meat that slows you down and makes you sick, such as cholesterol and saturated animal fat.
