Interview with Krzysztof „I&igor” Kazanowski (Lion Vibrations)
Where are you from?
In fact, the team operates today as Brzesko-Wrocławski, but also come from cities like Strzelce Opolski, Lewin Brzeski or Kedzierzyn-Kozle ... Opole Province, is hatchery of reggae talents. Good fortune associated with Wrocław. Thus, today we are, here we test.
Which artists is Lion Vibrations inspired by?
When we started our musical adventure, the inspirations ranged mostly from Jamaican roots reggae classics. From the time we got to know the new trends coming from the Caribbean such as dub and dancehall, but we did not forget about Polish traditions of the genre. Currently, you can hear clearly that we go back to the roots "black music" or jazz. Exchanging of names of artists constitute a separate article. Let me leave readers with a mild understatement …
How did the idea to connect seemingly so distant worlds such as reggae and jazz started?
Indeed, jazz and reggae, are seemingly distant worlds. Someone who is interested in the sounds of Jamaican knows that the origins of music from the Islands is inextricably linked with the American fascination with jazz, which in combination with the mento, calipso, or native species gave rise to ska and rocksteady then it went -, roots, etc. we were rather inspired by our teammate - Adam, who has to his credit also and jazz discs, just replace his cooperation with the collective Pink Freud, or a team of Peter Baron, an outstanding saxophonist and composer. Everything had already begun on the "Save Us". There Piotr Baron played some solos, dropped us to the ear and decided to take a chance. We faced classic jazz and we hope that we have emerged unscathed from this challange.
What kind of sound did you wanted to get on the new album?
The combination of American big band with a bang vinyl discs in the background, superimposed on one hundred percent variations Wailers from years of collaboration with Lee Perry. "Dirty" and crazy sounds straight from the Black Ark in black and white style jazz-reggae.
How did you selected guests to contribute on the recording?
When the first ideas emerged, who to invite to the recordings, it was a major factor in the selection of musical friendship. That is how we can treat the presence of Natalia Lubrano, Peter Baron, Wojtek Mazolewski, Jorgos Skolias and Kamil Bednarek. Over time, we decided to trudge on, or look for interesting personalities . Not all worked out, but it gained thanks to new friends. This was on the occasion of Natalia Niemen, Jahcoustixa from Germany and Chezideka from Jamaica. Of course, the case also played a considerable importance, as many as three drummers already recording disc. Importantly, however, each requested its originality and uniqueness of the sound tracks and the course of the session.
