This week Declan Drohan told us a little bit about new album he recorded with Fraterhaus and how it all started . That is first out of three parts that we are going to publish.

  • I knew John a couple of years. We played together at art music sessions and I always liked what he was doing. He used a lot of different proggrames, delay pedals and weird tunings. I loved it! One day group of artists took over an empty shop unit in Johnston Court where John was playing a set and I just joined in and did this spoken word piece. It worked really well! Because Fraterhaus consists of only two people we can easily respond to what the other person is doing by changing the tempo or sound. It's fantastic!

  • Later John asked me if I would be interested in doing a longer project with him. One morning we just played out a couple of things that I really enjoyed. When I got back home I just sat down and started writing this lyrics (that now you can hear on the album) that were a response to what we were doing together.

  • When we decided to record the album, we wanted to do it like on a live performance. We rehersed a couple of things so John knew how to respond to my lyrics and I knew how to respond to what he was playing. We wanted to keep random and spontanous elements in it so if you are going to hear us live it will not be the same as on the record!
