Hole is an American, alternative rock band that formed in Los Angeles,California in 1989 by singer/guitarist and songwirter, Courtney Love together with lead guitarist Eric Erlandson. They went through many drummers and bass players however their most influancing, prolific ones were drummer Patty Schemel and bassist Kriten Pfaff. Over the years, Hole became one of the most successful female-fronted rock bands of all time and incuraged many girls not to be afraid to rock. They sold over 3 million records in the United States alone.

In 1991 band collaborated with Kim Gordon for 'Pretty on the Inside' album and in 1994 following it with 'Live Through This' that was comercially successful record. It even gained a platinum status within a year of its release.

The year before Hole released their first record, Love met Kurt Cobain from Nirvana at Satyricon club in Portland. They later met at another show i 1991. Couple started a whirlwind relationship two months after Nirvana released their breaktrough hit album, 'Nevermind' . They married on a beach in Hawaii on 24th February, 1992 . Later August their doughter Frances Bean Cobain was born. Two years later on the 8th of April, 1994 Kurt Cobain comitted a suicide.

In 1998 Hole released their third studio album, 'Celebrity Skin' that managed to gain as much attention of their fans as the previous record. Billy Corgan helped Courtney and Erlandson to write title track that reached the top places in modern rock charts but their fans saw it as a comercial 'pop song' only written to gain more popularity and wider audience. It claimed 9th spot on Billboard's album chart.

Band went on a world tour to promote the album, ending up in America with a co-headline gigs with Marlin Manson, however their collaboration didnt go well. Hole dropped out of the tour stating that they will pay 50 percent of Manson's stage costs as the sole reason.

In 2009 Hole was reformed by Love with new members that included Micko Larkin, Shawn Dailey, Stu Fisher and Scott Lipps. Erlandson later recalled that the reformation breached a mutal contract he had with Courtney. In 2010 reformed band, released 'Nobody's Daughter' together with Mercury Records. Rolling Stone gave the album 3 out of 5 stars and noted that Love „was an absolute monster vocalist in the nineties, the greatest era ever for rock singers... She doesn't have that power in her lungs anymore – barely a trace. But at least she remembers, and that means something in itself."

In 2013 Love preformed an acoustic set in New York and later at Sundance Film Festival.

Later in 2014 Courtney said that she started writing the new material and that the reunion with previous members had fututre potential but she is uncertain of when it will happen.
